Hi Quickquote team!
I like this extension very much & I'm being used to it from the very First day!
Great job!Cheers

Would love a "QickQuote (Simple)" release, which quotes only selected text when replying in thunderbird. Following the "keep it as simple as possible"-idea. No config is need therefore =)

My version of Firefox (1.0.6) wouldn't let me install QuickQuote 0.7b3 - using drag and drop - said it was incompatible! My Tools/Extensions window doesn't have an option to install an extension, so had to use drag and drop.

Nice work! There's just one annoying problem I have come across - QuickQuote does not deal with rewrapping of quoted text very well. The problem is that it does not preserve the level of quoting, so any wrapped line only gets a single '> ' at the start of the line even if it second-level (or more) embedded quote.

I second lucero's recommendation - I would like to be able to select some text, hit the "Reply" button and quote the selected text (instead of using the context menu).

First, let me say this is great! I've been wishing TB would have this functionality for quite a while.
That said, with 0.7b4 and TB 1.5b1, I get weird behavior sometimes. If I highlight text and click the Reply button (after selecting the Toolbar Button Command Replacements options for Reply to Sender and Reply to All) I get this error message:
Alert
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT str.value has no properties
The weird part is it doesn't happen all the time. Just sometimes.
It would be nice to have the highlighted text appear not already selected after a ctrl-5 operation. I'd like the insertion point to be below the selected text so I can just start typing without having to click first.

Thanks for this -- but I'm either misunderstanding something or it isn't working for me. I *can* select some text and get a new message, using the customized quote text (which is the main reason I installed this), but if I just hit Reply on the whole message, without selecting text, then I get the old style ("xxx wrote:"). Is there any way to make this also replace the general behavior for Reply for a whole message?

Excellent extension, especially the b4 improvements. I'm not sure you've noticed, but the download link for b4 on the mozdev page actually downloads b3; looks like a simple typo in the html.

Also, there's the tantalizing hint that the few %keywords listed are only part of the total. How about a list of all of them -- and, if there isn't one, how about a %newline one to insert a return, which some others have suggested? And, while I'm making up work, how about %subject? That way the subject can be in the quote header, and I can use the actual subject (esp on a forward) for something else...

Great extension! Only seems to work when you select the text first though. QuickQuote offers a really nice way to change the settings in your replies, so it would be handy to offer this functionality also for "normal" replies (where you don't select the text first)...
Perhaps the authors of QuickQuote could include this option into the next release? (it shouldn't be too hard, it'd simply be an option saying: "when no text is selected, act as if the entire e-mail text was selected, then do the processing"). That'd be fantastic!

Agreed -- The only thing missing is an option for QQ to assume that an entire message is selected when there's actually nothing selected.
Also, if there are indeed additional %tokens, please let us know!

Great idea, but i can't use it - becouse of character set. In Th 1.5, when using QuickQuote with different cahacter sets, i get some trash on exit.
For example, in windows-1251
"Надеюсь на взаимовыгодное сотрудничество."
is replaced with
> 045NAL =0 27082K3>4=>5 A>B@C4=8G5AB2>.
in "compose message" window, opened after "quote in new message" action.
What can be done with that? I really want to use that beautiful extension!Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; ru; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - [17] Submitted by: Ilya on Sunday 15th January 2006 at 10:22 -0500

One suggestion is to support forwarding of e-mail in addition to replying. It would be very useful.

Cool utility. Thanks to all of those who took the time to create it.
Naturally, I have lots of suggestions that I wish I had time to help add to QuickQuote:
1. Don't quote blank lines (optional?).
2. Remove blanks in quotes:
ie: "> >> > " should be converted to ">>>> ". Note trailing space DOES belong.
3. Handle wrapping correctly:
ie: When adding a ">" forces a wrap, the next line of leading quotes.Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - [22] Submitted by: Fudd on Thursday 26th January 2006 at 23:34 -0500

Hi folks. This comment may seem a little out of context because it's not a complaint or even an observation about the progress of this project. I think the extension is great and it works well for me.
Fact is, I've been searching for some workaround to function as a REPLY-USING-TEMPLATE. As you know, templates in the current TBird are limited and awkward. This is where the search has led, to QuickQuote, because it has all the basic functions to reply to a message in a concise way. The only thing it really needs to provide users with a functional templates system is the ability to specify a file or template target into which the quoted text can be inserted (and to push a bit further- quote entire content).
My sort-of workaround is to use QuickQuote in conjunction with QuickText's ability to insert variables and some formatting. It's not evident when TB will get around to implementing a full templates system, but it seems to me and many of the forum posts make clear that templates are a primary function which should have been addressed long ago.
So consider this a fervent appeal to broaden this extension a little, and gain a lot more utility. Many thanks for all your hard work. QuickQuote is great.

I too would like the cursor insertion point to be below the quoted text. When I choose that option in the Account settings, the quoted text is selected.
Otherwise, I am very pleased to have this feature on T-bird. It makes the application function like the Dartmouth College program BlitzMail that has been around for well over a decade.

I have the QuickQuote extension installed, and like it very much. But there is one thing I haven't figured out how to do.
If I already have a compose window open *by hitting the Reply button*, and have text I want to paste in from somewhere else, when I right-click at the spot I want to insert the text, the normal "Paste" button is greyed out. Note that the Paste button is NOT greyed out in the compose window if I used the "Write" button.
Bug?

Very nice extension. Many thanks.
I wanted to share this web site on bottom posting vs. top posting. It is one of the better discussions on the topic and worth a glance.
I use [munch] & to let folks know that I chopped there email in my reply - thanks for including this feature in the extension. Makes sense.
In Unbuntu Linux, when I reply, the [munch] metaword is highlighted or blocked. I was wondering if this was on purpose. Ideally my cursor would appear bellow the metaword.
Great extension.

I've been waiting for an extension that provides this feature since switching over from Eudora about a year ago. Thanks!
A couple of requests [actually three]:
[1] I would also like the option of putting the insertion point below the quoted text.[2] I would like a blank line between the text inserted above the quote and the quote itself.
[3]In my installation quoted text is blue. Could black be made an option?
Again, thanks for creating this.

Thank you very much for this extension!!!
But please add a few extras (currently using v0.8):
- Make it work with the Ctrl-r keyboard shortcut. I really hate using the mouse.
- Make it work with Forward also.
- When using HTML mode, place the cursor a couple of lines (configurable would be nice) below the quoted text. With HTML mode the cursor is always embedded in the quoted text initially.
Thanks!! I cannot figure out why Thunderbird doesn't have this functionality implemented natively. It is one of the most basic features of a mail app.Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) - [42] Submitted by: John on Monday 22nd January 2007 at 16:50 -0800

I'm going to have to stop using this.
I just realized that there is really no good way to use this extension:
- If you use either of the "Use Clipboard" options, then it really does that and wipes out whatever you had in the clipboard(!!). How about at least a warning in the Settings that your old clipboard data is going to be lost?! I found this out the hard way.
- If you use the GetSelection" option, then it turns the quoted text blue. I don't want to modify the quoted text in any way.

I don't know if this is a problem with TB or QQ. When I copy some text to the clipboard, then goto the compose window, often times my only option is to "paste as quote".
But often, I just want to paste normally.

This is one of the extensions I would not like to miss.Just two questions:
1) the reply text is immediately under the cursur so I have to add an empty line in every reply message.
Is it possible to add a new line (line feed) variable like %n2) If I do not select text the QQ shortcuts don't work. Would it be possible when not selecting text to reply the whole message (using the same shortcuts)?

I often am replying to review requests where there is a (plain text) formatted section at the top of the body and large inline attachments toward the middle and bottom. I am using 0.8 for Firefox 1.5 (on Linux, firefox-1.5.0.10-fc6) and use Quote as Reply to All. I find that the selection mechanisms work great, but I cannot seem to disable the wrapping (even through some attempts at the configuration options)... so the formatted section at the top gets wrapped into gibberish. This makes it nearly unusable for this preformatted structure, although it's a great tool for paragraphs of unformatted plain text. I'm happy to file a bug report in bugzilla if this would help, but I'm not sure that this is really a feature request and therefore should be here.

Onfortunately, it is not compatible with Thunderbird 2.005, though release comment to 0.81 tells that.

I installed QQ yesterday on recommendation in the mozilla TB support groups. My settings are set to bottom post, but when I select text and right click to select any QQ option, the quoted text is placed under the header line with my sig above the header line. I disabled everything except QQ and nothing changes. Using 2.0.0.9

Great extension with a minor bug. QuickQuote apparently treats a reply line like "%author wrote on %date at %time" as if it were "%author wrote on %date"
It would be slick to break time out of date.

Thanks for this great Plugin!
I have been waiting for a plugin like this for years!!!
I still don't understand why Thunderbird developers don't include this native, like Eudora does, for example.

This plugin seems to have issues quoting 1252-encoded messages from Outlook users. In particular, those pesky smart quotes are quoted as invalid box characters. If I use the regular Thunderbird reply, then the quotes comes through fine.

What about "Quote in Forward"? That would probably be the most useful thing to me!
